OUR STORY

The Simon family has been moving freight across America for four generations on the floor. What started in 1955 with a single 2-ton tractor has grown into a 48-state refrigerated operation running lanes coast to coast — but the way we run hasn't changed. Family answers the phone. Family runs dispatch. Family signs the paychecks.

We're not the biggest carrier in the country. We don't want to be. We're the carrier you call when you need someone who'll pick up the phone at 2am, when the receiver's giving your driver a hard time, when the weather's against you in Wyoming and the load needs to be in Dallas in eighteen hours. The carrier that hits the dock and hands you a clean temperature log. The carrier whose drivers know what they're hauling and treat it like it's their own.

Four generations of doing one thing. We're not changing the model.

THE TIMELINE
1955

Dick Simon's first truck.

Dick Simon traded his new car for a 2-ton tractor and a 32-foot trailer. His first trip: hauling feed from Provo to ranchers in southern California, returning with a load of fish meal from Long Beach. One man, one truck, the start of everything.

1972

Dick Simon Trucking is born.

After years of driving nonstop, Dick incorporated as Dick Simon Trucking, Inc. — ending the sole proprietorship and laying the foundation for a Simon family business that would span generations.

1980

The second generation joins.

Dick Simon Trucking was running over 25 tractors and growing fast. Dick's son Kelle Simon began working alongside his father — the start of the second generation in the business, learning the trade the same way Dick did: by being there every day.

2002

Kelles Transport Service founded.

After Dick Simon retired, Kelle Simon founded Kelles Transport Service — carrying the Simon family's operating principles into a new chapter and laying the groundwork for the next generation to step in.

2018

Simon Express founded.

The third generation stepped up. TeJay and Chas Simon — Kelle's children, Dick's grandchildren — founded Simon Express, carrying the family's name into a new chapter. Soon after, they brought on their lifelong best friend — someone they'd known since elementary school, who had already worked for the Simon family for nearly 30 years — to help run the operations. Same family principle, just a new generation behind the wheel.

Today

The fourth generation.

Today, three of TeJay's sons work at Simon Express — the fourth generation of the Simon family on the floor. TeJay and Chas's brother is part of the team too. Simon Express is a national refrigerated carrier serving 48 states, hauling food-grade freight coast to coast. The trucks are newer, the technology is sharper, the family is the same — running dispatch, walking the yard, picking up the phone at 2 a.m. With the same commitment Dick Simon started with seventy years ago: show up, run hard, and treat people right.

HOW WE OPERATE

Three things we
won't compromise on.

A national carrier still answers to the family name. Here's where that name shows up in how we run.

01

The Cold Chain.

If a load is supposed to be 34°F, it's 34°F when it leaves and 34°F when it arrives. Continuous monitoring on every trailer. Temp logs handed to you, not buried in a portal. If the cold chain breaks, you hear it from us first.

02

The Drivers.

Family-run means we treat drivers like family. Drivers nominated us for Best Fleets to Drive For five years running, 2022 to 2026. We know everyone by name. We pick up when they call. And we run hard for the people running our equipment.

03

The Truck.

Late-model Cascadias, regular maintenance, no skipped PMs. A driver's truck is their workplace. We don't put anyone in equipment we wouldn't drive ourselves.

SAFETY & COMPLIANCE

Boring on paper.
Important in practice.

We meet or exceed every FMCSA, DOT, and FDA Food Safety Modernization Act standard that applies to refrigerated food transportation. ELD compliance, hours-of-service discipline, sanitary trailer protocols, food-grade load handling — all baked into the way we dispatch, not bolted on as an afterthought.

  • FMCSA-compliant ELD
  • FSMA Sanitary Transport
  • SmartWay Carrier
  • Fully insured
  • Driver safety scorecards
  • Annual driver training
